Ciao, folks. BB here. I’m just another year abroad blogger using his blog as a substitute diary for the next year – and more, if it suits me.
But first, a little background. I study Spanish and Arabic at Durham University and it’s finally rolled around to that time in the course when the university throws you out into the real world for a year before dragging you back for fourth year finals and graduation. I’m lucky enough to have landed a post as an English Language Assistant with the British Council in the wilds of Extremadura, so the bulk of this blog – and the year, for that matter – will probably be of principal interest to any and all with an interest in that program, though I hope it will be just as entertaining a read for everybody else.
I kick-started this blog primarily to document my various misadventures over the course of the coming year, as it’s my year abroad and that means all manner of culture shock, lost-in-translation fiascos and duels with pencil-pushing admin fiends – not to mention a healthy balance of reality. On the bright side, that all makes for terrific writing. I decided it was probably worth waiting until I had at least something down on paper so you might have an idea of what’s to come. The British Council’s email of acceptance seemed like a good place to start. So we’ll just see how it goes from there.
Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy your stay!
